Understanding the Kitchen display application main screen

A step-by-step guide to understanding all the options on the main screen in the Grafterr Kitchen Display application

Updated over a month ago

Understanding the main screen (KDS):

Once you log in to the Kitchen Display application, the screen may initially appear blank. This happens because a kitchen has not yet been selected.

  • In order to select the kitchen name, click on the "Settings" icon located at the top-right corner of the screen and scroll down to find the "Select Kitchen"

    option.

  • From there, choose the kitchen to which your menus are assigned.

    • This step is important because only the orders related to the selected kitchen will be displayed. For example, when a customer places an order from a food menu assigned to that food kitchen, the items will appear only on that specific food kitchen display.

  • After selecting the kitchen and returning to the main screen, you will immediately start seeing incoming orders from various ordering sources such as POS, Web, Self Kiosk, and other enabled channels. This confirms that the kitchen display is now actively linked to the selected kitchen.

Now on the top-left section of the screen, you will find essential information including the Business name, Kitchen name, and the Device ID of the kitchen display.

  • These details help you quickly identify which kitchen and device you are currently viewing, especially in setups with multiple kitchens or screens.

On the top-middle section of the screen, you will notice two main tabs: Orders and Preorders.

  • The "Orders" tab displays all orders that need to be prepared immediately.

  • The "Preorders" tab, on the other hand, includes orders that are scheduled for a later time, such as later in the day or on a future date.

  • By default, preorders may still appear on the orders screen until specific preorder display settings are adjusted, which will be covered in upcoming guides.

On the top-right corner of the screen,

  • You will find "Kitchen messages", which are messages sent from the Operator application to the kitchen staff.

  • Next to it is the "Refresh" button, which allows you to manually refresh the screen, and the "Settings" icon, which provides access to all kitchen display settings.

Each order card on the screen displays detailed information to help the kitchen staff prepare the order accurately. You will be able to see the

  • Order source (such as POS, Web, or Self kiosk)

  • Order type (Eat-In, Takeaway, or Delivery)

  • Token number (for example, 1001 or W001)

  • Order time

  • The name of the operator who processed the order and the customer name (if entered) are also shown.

  • For preorders, the scheduled date and time slot will be clearly mentioned.

  • Below all that, you will see the list of items ordered, along with any modifiers and special instructions added by the customer.

Lastly, you will find three action buttons.

  • “All Cooking” moves all items in the order to the cooking stage.

  • “All Completed” marks all items in the order as completed.

  • “Hide” removes the order from the active screen once it is done or no longer needed.

That’s it! You have now understood the main screen of the Grafterr Kitchen Display application. In the upcoming guides, we will explore all the kitchen display settings in detail. If you face any issues along the way, feel free to reach out to our support team.
