A course type represents the regular food consumption pattern of a region, essentially indicating the sequence in which food is consumed - such as starters, mains, and desserts.
The primary purpose of defining course type information is:
To communicate this order to the kitchen so that the staff can prepare dishes in the right sequence.
For this to work seamlessly, the course type information must first be assigned to menu items in the Admin Panel, then displayed and ordered on the Operator application, and finally visible on the kitchen display system.
Assigning item numbers through Admin Panel:
In order to assign course type to categories or items through Grafterr Admin Panel, follow the steps below:
Log in to your Grafterr Admin Panel through the Grafterr website. Once logged in, scroll down and select “Menu Management”. Under menu management, click on “Menu Configuration”. You'll see all your existing menus, categories, and food items.
Course types can be assigned either at the category level or directly at the item level. If a category is assigned a course type, then all items under that category automatically inherits the same course type.
To assign a course type, click on the “Edit” category or item, navigate to the “Print Destination” tab, and you will find the option to assign the “Course Type". Once the appropriate course type is selected, “Save” the changes.
Enabling course type display in Operator & kitchen display applications:
In order to enable the course type display in the Operator application and send the information to the kitchen display application, follow the below steps:
Login to the Grafterr Operator application. Once you’re logged in, “Refresh” the application as it’s crucial for the changes to take place on the application.
Navigate to “Extras”, then go to “Settings” at the bottom. As you scroll down, you will find an option called “Course Type”.
Here, you can toggle between Yes or No.
Selecting “Yes” ensures that the course type information is passed on to the kitchen display application along with the order.
Once this is set to “Yes”, go back and place an order. Now observe that the course type is clearly displayed on the order page, and when ordered, it also appears on the kitchen display screen.
This helps the kitchen staff to prioritise and prepare dishes in the right sequence. For more understanding on how course types interact with the kitchen side of operations, you can refer to our “Kitchen display application” guides.
