How to manage business types

A step-by-step guide to managing business types within the Grafterr Operator application.

Updated over a month ago

The business type setting defines how the application looks and functions depending on the kind of business you run. This is very important because not all businesses operate in the same way.

  • For example, a restaurant has different requirements compared to a takeaway outlet or a busy bar/pub. By selecting the right business type, the interface of the application automatically adjusts to highlight the most relevant features, making daily operations smoother and faster for your staff.

  • There are three business types available within the application:

    • Restaurant

    • Takeaway

    • Quick Pay

Each of these has its own main screen layout and set of options that are designed to match the way that type of business typically operates.

Managing business types:

In order to manage the business types within Grafterr Operator application, follow the steps below:

  • Log in to the Grafterr Operator application. From the main screen, navigate to “Extras” at the bottom left. Scroll down and select “Settings”. Open the general settings page and scroll down to find “Business Type”.

Business type - restaurant:

When you log in to the Operator application, the application is set to “Restaurant” mode by default. In this mode, you will notice options on the main screen such as:

  • Transactions, party bookings, reserve table, current reservations, and more on the left hand side.

  • These features are most useful for restaurants where dine-in customers need table reservations, bookings, and detailed order management.

Business type - takeaway:

To switch to takeaway mode, navigate to “Business Type” again. This time, when you choose “Takeaway”, you will see that the interface changes.

  • Some of the dine-in focused options disappear, and new options become available such as delivery management and driver tracking.

  • These options are essential for managing deliveries, assigning drivers, and ensuring smooth takeaway operations where speed and tracking are more important than table reservations.

Business type - quick pay:

The quick pay option is designed for fast-paced businesses like pubs, bars, or quick-service counters where speed is the top priority.

  • When you switch to “Quick Pay”, the interface looks very different compared to restaurant and takeaway modes.

  • The biggest advantage is that payments can be completed directly on the main screen, without navigating to a separate payment page. This saves time and makes transactions quicker, which is exactly what fast-moving businesses need.
